  • You know the court shoe you dread putting on: the one that pinches the bunion by mid-morning, or the wide-fit pair that gapes at the heel so you scrunch your toes to keep it on.

For a shoe you wear to work most days, that is no small thing.

At Calla, we make court shoes for women with bunions and wider feet, and we build them the other way round. Instead of scaling the whole shoe up, we add the extra volume only where your bunion sits, not everywhere at once. You get a court that looks like it belongs in a meeting, not the 'orthopedic' shoe you have been trying to avoid, and that feels like it was cut for your foot.

Why Calla court shoes fit well where others pinch or slip

    Ava taupe suede heels features

Every Calla court shoe shares the same set of design decisions, each one made so you can wear a proper closed heel through a full day without your bunion or your heel reminding you it is there.

    • A heel that stays put, not one you fight to keep on. Most wider courts are widened all the way around, so the heel gapes and slips and you end up clawing your toes to keep them on. We keep a standard width at the heel, the part of the shoe that actually holds your foot back, and add the room up front in the toe box instead. So a Calla court moves with you as you cross the office or the car park, rather than working its way off.
    • Room exactly where the bunion sits, even in a pointed toe. A pointed or almond court looks like it would crush the joint, so you may have ruled it out years ago. We widen the toe box where your big toe joint actually sits and cut the vamp a little higher at the sides, so the bunion sits behind soft leather instead of pressing against a low-cut edge while the point extends past your toes. You keep the elegant pointed line, and the shoe's edge sits above the joint instead of pressing on it.
    • A soft interior that gives over the joint instead of rubbing it. Stiff linings and internal seams are what rub a bunion raw over a long day. We line our courts in soft lamb leather and keep the toe box seam-free, so there is nothing to chafe the joint. Many styles also add a hidden moleskin stretch panel right over the bunion, so the upper flexes as you walk rather than pressing on the same spot. The leather softens to your foot over time instead of holding a stiff shape.
    • Heel height you choose by your day, engineered so it doesn't punish the joint. A heel's pitch, the angle it tips your foot forward, is what drives your weight onto the big toe joint. On our higher courts we set the heel on a subtle platform to flatten that angle, so a dressier heel behaves more like a low one at the front of your foot. Every pair carries a cushioned, arch-supported insole underneath, so whether you pick a low kitten for standing all day or a taller heel for an event, you are not paying for it by mid-afternoon.
    • Made for bunions by people who have them, and honest when a style won't suit you. Jenni started Calla because she has bunions herself and could not find court shoes that fit, so we shape the whole range around the joint rather than treating it as an afterthought. Each pair is handmade in Portugal by master shoemakers, and our fit advice comes from named podiatrists, not a vague 'podiatrist approved' badge. If your bunion is severe or your foot is very wide, we would rather say so before you buy than take a return: send a photo and the measurement across the widest part of your foot, and we will tell you whether a style will work.

Which Calla court shoe suits your day

Black patent leather shoes worn on a concrete floor

Our court range covers most of what you might have come here for: an everyday pair you can stand in, a dressier heel for an occasion and a soft, gentle option for a foot that is still settling. Whether you are on your feet from nine to four or standing through a wedding, one of them is likely yours.

    • If your court shoe is basically your work uniform and you are on your feet most of the day, start with the Claudia. It sits on a low 3.5cm kitten heel, the easiest height to stand and walk in, with a pointed toe that keeps the line smart. We shape the toe box to an EE fitting with the room built in over the joint, and the seam-free leather lining means no internal seam works away at the bunion through a long shift. Black leather keeps it plain enough for the office; the black croc leather and taupe suede add a little texture when you want it.
    • The Ava is the one to try if a pointed court has always frightened you, or your foot needs more than an EE. It comes in our widest fitting, up to EEE. We cut its vamp higher at the sides, so the edge sits above the bunion rather than digging in beside it, while the point still extends past your toes. The 5cm heel keeps it dressier than a flat without climbing into occasion-heel height. The soft kid leather and the suede version both give over the joint, which makes the Ava a gentle choice if your foot is tender or still settling after surgery.
    • When the day calls for a proper heel, a wedding, a christening or an evening out, the Sophia gives you the height without the usual price your bunion pays for it. Its 7.5cm heel sits on a hidden platform that tips your foot less sharply forward, so your weight is not driven straight onto the joint the way it is in a bare stiletto-height court. The cushioned, arch-supported insole holds up through a ceremony and the photographs after. In a light beige or off-neutral it works with an outfit you have planned around it.

If a court is only part of what your week needs, browse all our shoes for work here.

For a wedding or as mother of the bride, our comfortable wedding guest shoes range pulls the occasion styles together in one place.

And if your foot needs more room than an EE court can give, our extra wide toe box shoes are built to EEE.

If you are still deciding, a few short reads help:

Our courts can help reduce the pressure a heel puts on your bunion. They will not reverse the bunion itself, and we will never pretend otherwise. We make the kind of court you put back on and forget about, through a run of meetings or a wedding you stand right through.
